'The Stallion'
One of the largest sculptures Shane Bower has produced is a 12 ft high installation of a horse - displayed on the road between Sigatoka and Suva. The work was commissioned by the Sigatoka Town Council.
Mesmerising and iconic, this handcrafted copper installation, known as 'the Stallion of Nadroga' depicts grace and power. By combining the horse with the rugby ball, the symbol of Fiji's deep love for the sport, Shane created a powerful and evocative representation.
'The Sunderland'
The University of the South Pacific in Suva commissioned a life-sized Sunderland aircraft. The Sunderland aircraft was designed and constructed with albatross wings. The explanation for the albatross wings was to incorporate the New Zealand crew that flew the Sunderlands over Fiji. The nickname for the New Zealand Air Force pilots was 'Albatross'.
During the 1950s and 1960s, the Sunderland aircrafts were used by the Royal New Zealand Air Force to search for submarines, foreign fishing boats, to gather intelligence and to provide search and rescue coverage in the South West Pacific.
'Fijian Chief - Ratu'
The head and shoulders depiction of a Fijian chief has been handcrafted in copper. The sculpture stands at 2.5 ft tall and exhibits an intricate and beautiful patina.
Ratu is wearing a necklace crafted in magimagi (a fibe braided from long coconut husks) incorporating 'boars' teeth styled from glass blown by a local artist, Alice Hill.
